Harold and Julie Buckingham own and operate the City Market Bistro in Dade City, Florida. Harold was born and raised in Seminole, while Julie is a 4th generation Dade City/San Antonio resident. They are long time business owners whom in the summer of 2012 found themselves contemplating their next business venture when they received a phone call that put them on the path to opening the restaurant. That timely call informed them that the historic City Market Building, with which Julie has a family connection, had become available. She immediately knew it was the perfect building for a restaurant and a welcomed addition to Dade City.
The history Julie shares with the building was the true motive for the couple to open a restaurant in this particular location. The City Market Building was constructed in the early 1900’s and still today houses the original clay floors with exposed brick walls. The building inherited its name from its former tenant, The City Market, which was a family owned grocery store frequented by many of the locals. The grocery store was in operation from 1963-2002 and was owned by Julie’s great uncle, Bill Nalley. Julie’s grandfather often took her and her siblings to the store when they were young to visit while he helped his brother-in-law, Bill, in the meat section. Taking all this family history into account, Julie felt it was meant to be for her and her husband to operate their restaurant in the City Market Building.
City Market Bistro serves an eclectic blend of food that can be best described as comfort food with a flare! The Bistro’s executive chef, Cody Dwyer, has an extensive background in 5 star restaurants and has studied under some top ranked executive chefs. Cody and his family are also longtime residents of the town. He has developed a menu that will have your mouth watering just by reading the item descriptions. Together, Harold and Julie, along with Cody, have built a business Uncle Bill would be proud of and one you are sure to enjoy.
